The new tow vehicle/family truckster

I figured it was about time to get serious about towing what with a projected 4 karts to tote around next season.  So I decided to sell the minivan and look for a diesel Excursion to fulfill all of those duties.  I played the field for a few months and got serious over the last few weeks when a few good ones popped up.  I almost had a 2003 2WD 6.0L from North Jersey, but it sold the day before I was going to see it in person.  It was beautiful in pictures - all blacked out with black wheels, too.  But I was leery of the 6.0L diesel as they've had lots of problems and I didn't go out of my way to get up there sooner.  Then right after that I got a call from a small dealer in Edgewater Park where I'd inquired about another one that they had briefly and sold before I saw it.  They kept my name and number and called when they got the new one in - a 2001 Limited 2wd with the 7.3L turbo diesel.  I went to see immediately and it's a beautiful truck.  Very clean and 'only' 129k miles.

I was all set to take out a loan and then worry about selling the van when I posted it up on craigslist last Friday afternoon.  By dinnertime I had a nibble already!  On Saturday I had already planned to take it for detailing so we did that and immediately after getting it back the guy came from Philly to test drive and see in person.  Long story short, Monday was a VERY busy day.  I look the van to Liberty Toyota for a pre-sale inspection that took 2 hours.  Then I came home and worked for awhile while waiting for the truck dealer to open (11) and I called Lucas Ford to get an appt to do a pre-buy inspection on the truck (at 1).  Meanwhile the minivan buyer was making his was here using the trains and we met at Lucas Ford as they were finishing with the truck.  All was well with the truck with a few things to watch out for, but in overall very good shape with new tires, new brakes, and what looks to have been recent work on the tranny.

So we went around and got the money taken care of, signed over the title to the van and he dropped me at the dealer for me to do the deal on the truck, all before 4 pm.  I was done and on my way home by 5.  Very stressful day, but I'm very happy with this truck.  I drove it to Cranbury this morning and the diesel sure is a powerful piece.  I can't wait to tow something big with it.

Next up: a 6x12 enclosed trailer.
