Philly/SJR Winter event #2

This is more like it!  I just bought my new daily driver/NJ autoxer: a 2002 Lexus IS300 with 5-speed manual.  Still only with all-season tires and stock alignment, but I had to give it a go.  Turns out that Sal needed a co-drive and hopped in to see what this car could do.  And the course?  Well, let's just say that it was the largest, longest course I've seen or even heard about!  We used all of the lots Northwest of Citizen's Bank Park for paddock, grid, and course.  All in all the lots used for the course amount to about 730k sq ft of space - ENORMOUS!  We ran first heat with lots of moisture and were running in the low-80 seconds!  By the time everything dried out and the Pro class ran they were getting in to the upper 60 sec range.  So even by National course standards, this was a big course.

Sal and I were pretty close in times, but we were both having a lot of fun playing with RWD.  I spun a few times, mainly because I was having mental issues remembering which foot to brake with.  I'm not used to the pedals in this car yet and made two big mistakes not getting clear which foot was doing what.  Overall though I learned what the car is capable of as it stands today and I won't be nearly as 'afraid' of it as I have been (been pussyfooting around trying not to oversteer too much, with the Traction Control on).  Sal is much more used to driving RWD so he was drifting it around turns like a pro by our 4th runs.  It was a pleasure to watch and I can't wait to do more like that myself.

4 more weeks till we're back at NJMP.  I hope to have the kart up and running around that time - the kart track opens 1 March!  Need to get a MyChron, clean/rebuild the brakes and reattach the clutch cable before it will be ready.  And I'm also making plans to build my enclosed kart trailer in that same timeframe.  When will I have time to work my day job?!
