Kieran's competition debut

Kieran's kart was in fine working order, so he took to the event very well.  It was a HOT day (93 in April!) so Steven had the kids wait until the last minute to get in their gear and head out on course for a parade lap.  Parade laps are good in theory, but in practice never work out as scheduled.  Kieran stalled his kart as they were leaving (but stayed on course after he got going), and the truck workers weren't sure what was going on so some of the times made it through as competition times.

But after that, they all (3 FJAs and 2 FJCs) ran their runs and Kieran did pretty well.  His clutch is not fully engaging off the line and sometimes took up to 10-12 seconds to get up to speed.  Some other times it got going after only 4-6 secs, so I have no idea what's going on there.  By his third and fourth runs, though, he was more comfortable with the course and pushed really hard.  He missed something at the very end of his third run and went off course.  But his 4th run was fast and on-course for his best time, 76.075.  I even had to stop him from going a 5th time - he doesn't want to stop!

He was pretty happy with the event and he's been pushing me to look into the clutch problem, so he clearly wants to go faster and is contributing to the cause.  Kerry brought the girls out to watch, so everybody was happy.  I was very happy to see him out there, staying on course and going faster each time (no lifting through the slalom on his 3rd and 4th runs).  Good times.

Now we're off for about a month, so we have some time to get things ready again.  Rolex is next weekend!
