Another LeMons race!

Something David Black said on the ETR forum triggered me to email him about the Lemons team he's with.  He immediately wrote back to say it's the "junior" team to the Georassic Geo guys (official name is the Knoxvegas Lowballers) and they have a car they're putting together for a 1-2 Feb race at Barber Motorsports Park - and they need another driver!  We talked a few times and I went to Knoxville this morning to meet him to see the car, see how I fit in the seat, etc.  All is looking good for me to slide into this seat for the race!  In fact the seat is arranged perfectly for the range of driver heights on the team and the visibility for me is very good - better than either the MR2 or the Mustang (especially the Mustang).  David is the junior team captain and he and Keith co-own the car and are covering a majority of the expenses for the first race.

We got a few things accomplished on the car (getting the steering wheel mounted so it works for the seat, mounting a tow hook to the front bumper, and a few other minor things).  The cage is done and looks sturdy.  Jon Coatney (TennFab) did all of the metal fab work and it all looks great.  We hit a major snag though trying to get the car started.  Something in the wiring got hosed during the cage install so David needs to retrace all of his steps to find the problem.  We were trying to get it onto the trailer to take to his house but couldn't get it done before I had to leave.  Gary from the main team came over to the shop to help but I don't know what they did after I left.

So we'll see what needs to happen with the car.  I hope to get over there again for a work day to meet the rest of the drivers and get the rest done with the car.  With only 4 weeks left, there's still a pretty good list of items to be done.  For me, though, I don't need a new helmet to race since LeMons is still honoring the 2005 helmets this year.  Yay.

Now to make arrangements (next weekend?) to pick up the kart in DC.
