Even though we did not go out to Nationals this year, several Philly Region folks - and Sal DiPompo - went out to play.  Sal found a ride in Jim Murphy's (Atlanta Region) FM car and everyone else took their cars out.  After the first day, Sal was sitting in 3rd place, only 0.4 sec out of 1st.  On Wednesday, there was severe humidity and a mist hung over the site.  Radar showed no rain in the area, but the skies opened with showers during Sal's heat, wreaking havoc on several classes. SS and SSM both got turned on their heads with only a few people getting dry runs - and thus vaulting themselves to the top of the charts.

During Sal's heat, the rain came and went and the surface began drying at the end of their 2nd runs.  By the time Sal ran his third run, he was sitting in 5th place, but the surface was getting faster by the minute.  According to Sal, he ran that run balls to the wall and got way sideways in the section just before the finish.  He slowed and maintained control and said he thought he would kill someone if he threw it away by a tenth of a second right there.  He needn't have worried.  His run was good enough for the FM Championship by 1.1 seconds over 2nd place!  Way to go, Sal!  SJR has a National Champion!

The second set of classes started this morning, so there are a few more chances for some titles for Philly.
